Dance program (Eng)

Cuban Salsa & Son Dance Program

In 2026, Nordic Salsa Camp will present a super 20th anniversary dance program in Cuban Salsa and Cuban Son – Where you can choose between a Cuban Salsa dance line with Cuban salsa, son, cha cha cha, rumba, afro, salsaton, timba, and rueda de casino or a Cuban Son dance line with Cuban son, cha cha cha, bolero, timba-son and rumba-son. You can only look forward to that!

The common theme and red thread in the dance program will be: “Lets Celebrate, Connect & Grow Together” – Where we will celebrate the Camp’s 20th anniversary in the very best Camp style by going a step deeper in exploring the diverse possibilities of Cuban salsa and son for playing and dancing to the music – Where this year we will have a special focus on how we can become even better at being present and growing and developing ourselves personally and together. Be it in dance, in music, in cultural meetings, in social relationships, in togetherness, and in life as such.

Main Subject: Cuban Salsa & Son partner work

Cuban Salsa and Son partner work is the “main subject”, on both the Cuban Salsa line and Son line, where there is a main subject in partner work every day in the morning block from 11:00-12:15 and Friday from 14:00-15:00.

The same salsa workshop theme is taught at the same time on the 7 salsa levels and the same son workshop theme is taught at the same time on the 3 son levels.

This means that the teaching is differentiated with increasing difficulty adapted to the individual levels and where there at the lowest levels is extra focus on learning basic salsa and son dance techniques.

Additional Subject: Salsa & Son Mix

Salsa Mix and Son Mix are the additional subjects on the Cuban salsa line and Son line, held in the afternoon block from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

On the Salsa line, this can include teaching styles such as saltaton, rumba, son, cha cha chá, afro and rueda de casino.

On the Son line, this can include teaching styles such as cha cha cha, bolero, changüi, mambo, timba son, rumba son and afro son. The same salsa or son mix theme are taught, simultaneously on all the levels but with a differentiated severity adopted to each level.

Playground & Exchange

Playground – Student Exchange is held in the afternoon block from 14:00-14:45 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and in the evening block from 19:00-20:00. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)

Playground from 14:00-14:45 is a playground, training arena and space for socializing and cultural meetings, where Camp participants have the opportunity to train, exchange experiences and arrange activities and workshops in dance, ensemble, singing, cultural themes, etc.

Playground from 19:00-20:00 is both a playground and training arena for participants and a space where instructors can offer to teach dance styles that they would like to show.

The course management has prepared a tentative playground program in advance for possible activities that students and instructors have offered.

If I have an idea or suggestion for a Playground workshop or activity that I would like to offer, please send an email to Carl at cn@webnetmail.dk

Selecting dance levels at the Cuban Salsa line

You can basically register at one of the following 7 dance levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2, Advanced 3 Advanced 4 and Advanced 5 (masterclass).

You must register with a registration dance partner at the same dance level in relation to this description of the dance levels. This is a guide so that you can register at roughly the right level in Cuban salsa, as the names for levels differ from dance school to dance school. At the Camp itself, we will make a final fine-tuning of classes and dance levels.

Beginner:
You are a beginner in Cuban salsa and want to learn to dance Cuban salsa

Intermediate:
You have completed the equivalent of approx. 20 hours of easy instruction and/or have been dancing salsa for at least 6 months. You are confident in the rhythm, can vary your dance and are not afraid to work with your body.

Advanced 1:
You have completed the equivalent of approx. 40 hours of instruction at beginner and intermediate level and/or have danced salsa for at least a year. You can now dance salsa without “thinking”. The dance is starting to flow, you would like to have a larger repertoire

Advanced 2:
You have received salsa lessons for 3 seasons, corresponding to approx. a total of 60 hours of instruction and have danced salsa for more than a year and a half. You are learning very quickly now, and you have now focused on styling and bodywork.

Advanced 3:
You have received at least 80 hours of group instruction supplemented with courses at festivals etc. You have danced salsa for at least 2 years. You are already an experienced dancer who learns new things very quickly, and now want to get a complete handle on your styling and bodywork and the incorporation of Afro/Cuban elements.

Advanced 4:
You are an experienced salsa dancer at a high level who has danced salsa for many years and you have a handle on styling and bodywork. You enjoy being challenged with, among other things, Afro/Cuban elements and want to perfect your dancing in terms of listening, improvising and expressing yourself stylistically and physically based on your interpretation of the music.

Advanced 5:
You dance Cuban salsa at masterclass level. This means that you basically master all styles, bodywork and rhythms in Cuban salsa, and you focus on developing your musicality and improvisation in the dance.
